Israel's Top Brass Cracks Down on Gaza Misconduc

Hey folks, I wanted to share an update on the situation in Gaza. It seems the Israeli military's top lawyer has put soldiers on notice about upholding high standards of conduct.

Major General Yifat TomerYerushalm issued a letter saying some troops may have crossed lines with how they used force or handled property. She said actions like unnecessary violence, stealing, and disobeying orders hurt Israel's reputation and don't reflect their values. A few cases are under investigation now.

Videos from the conflict are troubling. Some show Palestinians made to sit outside in just their underwear. A few even included women and kids. Separately, soldiers posted videos online mocking Palestinians and stealing from homes - officials say over $25 million was looted in just three months.

Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi emphasised troops need to only use force when needed, protect civilians, not take souvenirs or weapons, and avoid revenge videos. Her message seemed aimed at reminding everyone that the Israeli military aims to conduct itself, and be seen, as humanely as possible even amid a difficult situation. Only time will tell if her warning has the desired effect.
